The Münzenberg gallows, located south-west of the old town centre, are one of the few surviving brick execution sites of this type in Upper Hesse. Two six-sided stone columns, which carry a crossbeam, tower on two masonry quarry stone bases. Such a structure, consisting of two pillars, must have stood on the Münzenberg Galgenplatz in the Middle Ages. At that time, the execution of the death penalty was in the hands of the lords of Munzenberg, since only they could or were allowed to exercise high jurisdiction, including blood jurisdiction or jurisdiction over neck and hand. The last execution on the Münzenberg Galgenplatz took place on May 22, 1742.

The executioners came from outside and checked beforehand whether the delinquent had already been branded a thief. No one in town would have taken on these tasks, as the profession was considered dishonest and one would have been shunned by the community.
