The modern network of paths of the Eifelverein meets here in the Ville with an ancient, Europe-wide network of paths, over which millions of people have made pilgrimages to the grave of the apostle James the Elder in Santiago de Compostela since the high Middle Ages. In our time the pilgrimage to St. James is experiencing a renaissance; hundreds of thousands of people move from all over Europe every year ...
That is why in 1987 the Council of Europe called on its member countries to revitalize the Camino de Santiago. Since 1999, the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) has made it its task to redesign and mark the historical routes of the St. James pilgrims in our region.
