"De Lithse Ham" is a sand excavation lake that is now a recreational area. During the excavation, the remains of a Roman temple were found. It is now a large water-rich nature and recreation area.
If you hike or cycle along the Meuse between 's-Hertogenbosch and Oss, you will not come across anything above ground that dates back to Roman times. Below ground, it's a whole different story. Archaeologists have made many finds in recent decades that indicate a lively coming and going of people, trade products and ideas. At around 16 locations along the trail, landmarks, information boards and audio silhouettes tell of the Roman history of the region.
You can also learn more about the Roman past via an app. Download the free app and open the "Temple along the Meuse" route. The app shows the route and gives a signal on site when interesting information is available.
