The Klinkenberg is the remains of a motte-and-bailey castle near the Drenthe village of Gees. The Klinkenberg is located along the Geeserstroom (Marsstroom) on the Muzelweg, close to the Goringdijk.
The motte-and-bailey castle consisted of a main castle and an outer castle and was surrounded by a figure-eight moat. Measurements taken in 1847 show that the motte of the outer castle, also called Keutershoogte, was five meters high and the motte of the main castle was six meters. In 1936, the outer castle and part of the main castle were excavated for sand extraction. The remaining hill is about four meters high.
Archaeological research was carried out in 2002, which showed that the canal was not directly connected to the Geeserstroom. A crossbow and arrowheads were found in the moat. A wooden pole turned out to date from 1239.
