If you are lucky, you can see the island plane here. Instead of 90 minutes, the "crossing" from the mainland only takes 5 minutes. There is also a restaurant.

The airfield, the second "mainstay" of the heavily tide-dependent island, is located at its eastern end, approx. 4 km from the town center. Flugplatzstraße ends here. In a cozy café / restaurant you can wait, chat or watch the flight operations.

From 1971 to 1973 the airfield's grass runway was paved into a permanent runway 700 meters long and 15 meters wide. In 1990 the runway was widened to 20 meters. The tower and the airfield restaurant were built from 1974 to 1977. There are daily transports of people and goods, and during the summer months the motor sailers at the youth training center take off regularly. There is flown throughout the year, but only under visual flight conditions. Ambulance transport is possible at any time, i.e. also at night with a helicopter. The airfield is of great importance for the island, especially in severe weather conditions, such as ice drifts or strong east winds, because it is the only connection to the mainland in these weather conditions.

You can also start sightseeing flights and flights over the mudflats and the East Frisian Islands from the Juister airfield. The youth education center "Theodor Wuppermann e.V." is located directly at the airfield. Experiential education courses are held here all year round.
