The Achalm site is located on the eastern slope of the mountain in the area of the so-called "Rappenplatz", a level area up to 20 m wide and around 120 m long, about 80 meters below the summit.
The finds from the excavations to date prove that the "Rappenplatz" was used as a settlement site for long periods in pre-Christian times. People settled here permanently, particularly during the late Urnfield period (10th/9th century BC) and in Celtic times (= late Hallstatt and early La Tène period, 6th-4th century BC).
In the more recent of the two settlement periods, the natural level area of the "Rappenplatz" was expanded into a mighty settlement terrace by artificial embankments. This made it possible to build various residential buildings here at ground level. Remains of these buildings, made of wood, wickerwork and clay, have been preserved in the ground and were documented during the new excavations. These include numerous hearths, the remains of an oven and a clay floor, as well as various post holes. Numerous small finds from the settlement layers (ceramics, spindle whorls, loom weights, needles, brooches, beads, animal bones, etc.) also provide a vivid insight into everyday life and crafts in the 1st millennium BC in our area.
