The Hans-Heinz-Schanze was built in the late 1920s. With jumping distances of around 70 meters, it was the first large hill in Germany at the time. In contrast to its neighboring, smaller hill, it can no longer be used. There is a simple restaurant below the ski jumps on Kammweg.

The Hans-Heinz-Schanze in Johanngeorgenstadt was the first large hill in Germany and was named after the initiator of ski jumping in Johanngeorgenstadt, who died in World War I. His brother Guido, a local furniture manufacturer, financed and built the ski jump in 1928/29. The first hill record was jumped by Walter Glass from Klingenthal in 1929 with 68 m. One year later the later Norwegian Olympic champion Birger Ruud achieved 70 m! In the end, the record was 80 m, held by local Herbert Queck. The largest German ski jump at that time had a 42 m high inrun tower with a 110 m inrun length, but in 1956 the now dilapidated wooden construction collapsed.
At the same place in Lehmergrund the new Erzgebirgsschanze as K75 was built from 1960 to '62. Incidentally, the massive reinforced concrete structure was co-financed with profits from the state Lotto-Toto competition in the GDR. In the mid 1960's the junior ski jumps were built, whereby in 1978 the K36 got a hydraulically adjustable inrun (Friday Tower). The youth jumps are in operation and were renovated and covered with mattings in 1993/94. In 2005 all four small hills got a porcelain inrun track and new mattings.
Since the beginning of the 21st century there hasn't been any jumping on the large Erzgebirgsschanze because it no longer meets modern profile and safety requirements. In the meantime, the dismantling of the venerable large Erzebirgsschanze has already begun. Nevertheless, the WSV Johanngeorgenstadt is still very active in promoting the Nordic youngsters, so that jumpers like Sven Hannawald or Nordic combined athlete Björn Kircheisen can emerge from the club in the future.

On December 30, 1923, the winter sports club in Johanngeorgenstadt inaugurated a new ski jump not far from the train station in the Schwarzwassertal, which was named in honor of a club member who fell in 1918, the Hans-Heinz-Schanze. After this ski jump could only be used for a few years, it was decided to build a much larger ski jump in the Schwefelbachtal in the Roman Empire forest area. The then largest ski jumping hill in Germany was built, which was inaugurated on January 5, 1929 in the presence of around 13,000 spectators. Alfred Czermak (* 1910) from Johanngeorgenstadt undertook the consecration jump.
