The name sounds like an invitation – to expanse, light, and a view. And indeed: Anyone who sits here on the sand has a box seat overlooking the changing spectacle of the Havel. On clear days, the water shimmers as if washed, and the sailboats sail their silent paths like thoughts undisturbed. But beauty attracts company – and company leaves its mark.

The sand is soft, almost too soft to truly lie down on – you sink into it as if on a slightly melancholy summer day. Children's laughter, music from Bluetooth speakers, the unspoken competition for the best spot. And in between: black traces, small witnesses to nighttime fires. Coal in the sand where stories were told in the evening, beer bottles clinked, and someone played the guitar who would have been better off keeping quiet.

A place that promises much – and also delivers much, if you catch the right moment. Early morning, for example. Or when a rain shower has chased away the crowds. Then the Large Window is truly open – wide, quiet, and almost a little solemn.
