The name festival of Saint Eustace is celebrated on September 20th. His legend is historically unassignable. He is said to have been a distinguished Roman general under the Emperor Trajan and an avid Christian persecutor. His Roman name was Placidus - Greek: Eustace.

Eustaceius was not only a soldier, but also a hunter driven by wild pursuit of hunting, to whom a deer on horseback had appeared a stag with the sign of the cross between the antlers.
