The 589 m high Peterlesstein is one of the largest remaining serpentinite deposits in Germany and is home to a very rare, valuable flora. Because the serpentinite was used for the production of crushed stone and earlier also as heat stone, healing stone and for jewelry production, serpentinite sites are very rare today.
The name "Peterlesstein" goes back to the earlier processing of the conspicuous green serpentinite into gemstones and glass beads, the so-called "Paterin".
