06.04.2019 - The former convent of the Franciscans (today Redemptorists) was by nature a worthwhile destination for enemy attacks and therefore defensively equipped. The Turks, in particular, cruelly behaved with the inhabitants, as frescoes in the staircase to the church show.

Handed over to the Franciscans by Johann Sigismund von Weißpriach in the years 1458 to 1462. Looted and destroyed by the Turks in 1532, but restored. During the Reformation the Franciscan monastery ceased to exist, and in 1573 a Protestant school was established. In 1593 it was given back to the Franciscans. At the time of the second Turkish siege, the monastery suffered major damage. In 1783, under Emperor Joseph II, the monastery was dissolved and a silk factory set up, later an inn was housed. In 1857, Count Chambord donated the monastery to the Redemptorists. Today the Klemens-Maria-Hofbauer-Gymnasium is located in this building. [katzelsdorf.gv.at]
