In the Waasland, the Moervaart and the Stekense Vaart wind their way through grass-green fields and past beautiful villages. The cycling and walking paths on the banks take the sting of stress and bustle out of everyday life with a well-targeted intervention.

While you walk, stroll, laze and kick with a river breeze on your forehead. You should not book a very expensive sauna to relieve muscle tension for a while. Exploring the two surprising canals is more than enough – and a lot cheaper.

Both banks of the Stekense Vaart or the Kanaal van Stekene are recognized as a quiet area. Here you can enjoy a landscape with exceptionally beautiful views. The Vaart was dug in 1315. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the canal was an important economic artery in the region. The waterway played an important role in the transport of bricks and tiles. These were manufactured in the numerous brick and tile factories that this region was rich in.
