The parish church of St. Veit in Pöllau is also affectionately called "Styrian St. Peter's Basilica". The church received this title because of its floor plan.
The parish was first mentioned on a church document from 1163. Today's parish church and castle are part of the building complex of the former Augustinian canons in Pöllau, which was settled in 1504 from Vorau. With a total length of over 62 m, a width of around 37 m and a dome height of 42 m, the Pöllau parish church is the largest baroque church in Eastern Styria.
