This is the oldest preserved Jewish cemetery on the German Baltic Sea coast. Between 1776 and 1850, Jews from Stralsund, Greifswald and other Western Pomeranian places buried their dead here. In those years, they were forbidden from burying in their respective home towns - but here, in what was then Gut Niederhof, they were expressly permitted. The funeral societies mostly arrived here in small ships, which docked at the nearby Ufr. It is not known how many people found their final resting place here - but certainly more than the gravestones and remains of such that could still be found in 1990.
The enclosure, created in 1999, protects the remaining 26 tombstones of great cultural and historical value as well as the memorial stone erected in 1964.

The old Jewish cemetery is somewhat hidden and is surrounded by a wooden fence. Next to the entrance, which is permanently locked, is a sign with historical information about the cemetery.
