This is one of the PWV's over 300 knight's stones. It is clearly visible at a crossroads very close to highway 504 (Kaiserslautern – Waldleiningen).

The Ritterstein “points to a residential building that was built in 1824 by the former fountain maker Christian Axer from Kaiserslautern and demolished in 1951. In addition to the Axershäuschen, the nearby Axertal is also named after the fountain maker. [...] However, the climatic conditions made it difficult for him [Christian Axer] to work with the cattle, which led to unsuccessful farming and livestock farming. [...]
Since 1951, the former Axer area has been part of the upper Lauter water protection zone. Since then, the residents of the city of Kaiserslautern have been getting their drinking water from this (Eitelmann 2005, p. 125). The Ritterstein has stood [outside] the fence of the water protection area on the hiking trail since 1995, i.e. no longer at the location of the Axer property.”

In the Hungerbrunnental there used to be a house owned by Axer from Kaiserslautern, he was a well maker. The valley was rough and Axer had less success with agriculture and animal husbandry. The state bought the property and it was demolished in 1951 because the area is part of the water protection zone, Kaiserslautern supplies part of the drinking water from here. This knight's stone, which is maintained and maintained by the PWV, commemorates Axer.

“Axershäuschen 1824-1951” (Knight’s Stone No. 157) is located in the Hungerbrunnental, west of the 504 country road from Kaiserslautern to Waldleiningen. It lies between Spitzrain and Großem Steinberg and about 800 meters south of the railway underpass at the Stiftswalder Forsthaus.
