The Beatenberg Bridge is a beautiful and enormously interesting pedestrian suspension bridge of a special class. Even if it is certainly not one of the superlatives with its length of 79 meters and a maximum height of 31 meters, this bridge is a true masterpiece.

The current bridge was built in 2017. But at this point there has been an artificial crossing over the Sundbach for over 100 years (since 1918). In addition to the transportation of people, the bridge now also serves as a sewage pipe carrier and thus helps to transport the sewage from the communities on Beatenberg down into the valley.

In addition to the fact that the sewer pipe is attached to the pedestrian suspension bridge, the height difference of the bridge is also remarkable. The difference of more than 15 meters is overcome with kicks on the bridge.
As if that weren't enough, no, the bridge also makes an arch. For this, the technology of a single-cable suspension bridge was chosen and thanks to the extremely sophisticated tensioning technology and the full integration of the sewer pipe as a static component (torsion pipe), the bridge could be designed in this way. The engineering office Theiler in Thun and x-alphin GmbH (Bau) did a great job here.
