Anyone interested in living in the first half of the 20th century should definitely visit the Haesler Museum. Free entry, donation requested. Until 2019 the museum was only open once a month, now every week from Wednesday to Sunday. If you think from Celle, you associate this with half-timbered houses and the castle. Not everyone knows that there is also Bauhaus architecture there. Otto Haeslet's settlements and buildings shape the cityscape of Celle to this day.

otto haesler (1880-1962) was one of the great architects of the 20th century with an international reputation. He worked as a freelance architect in Celle from 1906-1933.

Its settlements and buildings in the Bauhaus style characterize the cityscape. His settlements in Celle, Karlsruhe, Kassel and Rathenow (1926-1931) were among the most progressive and groundbreaking buildings of the Weimar Republic.

One of these outstanding works by Haesler includes u. a. also the elementary school in Celle from 1926-1928. The school is still a showpiece due to its distinctive cubic exterior and its unique, extremely functional interior.

This museum is unique with an originally preserved and furnished Bauhaus workers' apartment, a workers' apartment furnished in the 1950s, refugee accommodation from 1945, an original wash and bath house built in 1931 and an extensive photo exhibition about life in a workers' Bauhaus settlement in Germany.
