The Rubicone River, made known by the passage of Julius Caesar in 49 BC, marked for a long period the administrative border between Republican Roman Italy and Cisalpine Gaul inhabited by the Gallic tribe.

Currently, the historical memory of what the ancient Rubicone was has been lost, and it is also possible that in some places its course has changed.

There are two rivers that mainly compete for this honor and both originate in the territory of Sogliano al Rubicone: the Fiumicino/Rubicone that rises from the eastern slopes of Mount Strigara and the Urgon that rises from the western slopes of Strigara (Loc. Bagnolo) and in the plain takes the name of Pisciatello.

The Passo dei Meloni connects the Source of the Rubicone, in the locality of Strigara to that of the Urgone, in the locality of Bagnolo.
