The Catholic Church in the Bornheim district of Brenig, already referred to as the foothills cathedral by the local grandeur, is consecrated to St. Evergislus. He was bishop of Cologne in the 6th century. The feast day of St. Evergislus in the saints calendar is October 24th.

During the Christmas season, the anteroom under the tower, which otherwise serves as the main entrance to the church for Saint Evergislus church visitors, is not accessible. Because this room, the tower chapel, is used to present the church nativity scene in the Brenig district of Bornheim.

The village of Brenig is one of the fourteen districts that, since the municipal reform in the 1970s, make up the present-day town of Bornheim. The local parish church is dedicated to Saint Evergislus. The "Bornheim Spring Trail," designed by the Bornheim Local History and Eifel Association, runs partially through the village. Stops along the trail include the water tower and the former pump house at Rücksbroich.
