The Nikolai Church in Elmshorn was first mentioned in 1347. In 1362 the church was dedicated to St. Nicholas. It was not until 1881 that the church received the neo-Gothic tower with 3 bells. The richly decorated church is well worth seeing. The tower clock with its movement from 1881 is unique in Northern Europe

The Nikolaikirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Elmshorn.

The brick building with its neo-Gothic tower rises up in the center of the town of Elmshorn. The Nikolaikirche is a single-nave hall church with a Gothic core. The furnishings also come from the Baroque period, as does the southern extension.

The church was important beyond the city limits of Elmshorn: from 1726 to 1882 the respective main preacher of Elmshorn was also provost of the provost of Rantzau. In 1966 the official seat of the provost for the church district of Rantzau was moved from Glückstadt back to Elmshorn after the new community center in Elmshorn was completed. (Source: Wikipedia)
