The Imbros Gorge is a highlight on Crete. Magnificent rock formations can be admired. The narrow spots in the canyon are fantastic. The hike through the gorge is also suitable for children. I can only recommend it 🇬🇷👍🌞👌😎

Fantastic gorge for a hike and not as crowded as the Samaria Gorge. Also child and family friendly and not too demanding.

The path into the gorge begins below the village of Imbros. There are several cafes and taverns in Imbros (with enough parking spaces), from where each path leads to the ticket booth at the entrance to the gorge. The paths are clearly marked. Depending on where you start in the village, it takes 3 to 10 minutes to the entrance. A ticket costs 2 euros (2016).

From there, the hiking trail descends gently to the south towards the gorge. The path is never particularly steep or very difficult (sneakers are sufficient for the hike), but like everywhere in Crete, the path is very rocky, so you have to be careful where you put your foot. Since the gorge is quite narrow (less than 2m wide at one point!) And there are some trees, you almost always have shade.
