Mogelsberg Church
The village of Mogelsberg is mentioned for the first time in a document dated October 4, 1152, which is in the possession of the St. Gallen Abbey Archives. A document from 1178 speaks of the 'mother church of Mogelsberg'. This is the earliest evidence of the existence of a parish in Mogelsberg. After the Reformation in Toggenburg (1528), only Reformed services were held until 1567, and then Catholic services as well.
The current church building dates from 1810. Reformed and Catholics built it together. The church building is managed, maintained and used on an equal footing to this day. The Reformed and the Catholic parishes have lived a strong ecumenical movement for many years. This is shown, among other things, by the fact that they serve each other at an aperitif following special church celebrations during the year.
