A plane has crashed on Domain Kiewit. Or so it seems. The wreckage of a World War II scout is part of a 2.5-kilometer trail that aims to discover both the history and the vastness of the petting zoo.

The plane was shot down over Houffalize during WWII. The fighter pilot managed to escape alive from the wreckage. At the risk of his own life, the resistance hid him in the attic of Kiewit's castle.

At the time of Tehuis Rulot, the Kiewit castle and more specifically the attic were often used by the resistance as a kind of safe house. Refugees were hidden there for a night before they could continue their flight. Around 17 March 1944, leftwaist gunner John E. Ault hid in the attic for a while before starting the last stage of his escape. The Jew Anger Egon is also said to have used the same facilities. Rumours that there were still pilots in the Kiewit attic cannot yet be confirmed.
