ハイキング
The name "pigsties" for the 300 meter long and up to 60 meter wide gorge is based on the fact that the farmers from Ferschweiler drove their pigs into the gorge in the Middle Ages to fatten them up with acorns and beechnuts. The upper and lower end of the gorge was simply blocked off with cross bars. The Old High German name "Sweigastal" is made up of "sweiga" (pasture) and "stal" (place).

These rock formations are awesome. This region is simply great for hiking, rock ponds, Teufelsschlucht, Irreler waterfalls or Mullerthal on the Luxembourg side. You have to see and experience it.

The gorge is called pigsties, as can be seen from the previous comments. At the crossroads at the bottom of the gorge there is a rest area with a table and bench.
