The pyramid was named after a stone pyramid that was destroyed by a lightning strike in the 18th century. From up here you have a great view of the city and the entire surrounding area. The panorama alone makes the climb worthwhile.

Maribor's origins can be traced back to the 12th century, when a fortress was built here, on the top of Piramida Hill to defend the Frankish Empire against the Magyars. These days, the fortress is no more and Piramida is a popular place for a walk above the city, providing exceptional views. The top is now crowned by a chapel, while the foundations of the original fortress can still be seen.
