The 4.80 m high wayside shrine made of sandstone and shell limestone shows a free-standing cross. The detailed statue of the Virgin Mary made of red sandstone is modeled sitting at the foot of the cross. Projecting, ledge and curved cover plates protect the cross with the body. The original inscription on the base expresses gratitude for the preservation of the community of Eßleben from great war hardship after the battle of Kissingen and Nüdlingen on July 10, 1866.
