This path leads along the north side of the city lake - westwards to Untereider. The Rendsburg city lake is about 3.5 ha in size and up to 1.5 m deep. It was built in 1893 during the construction of the Kiel Canal.
Through the construction of a lock, the water level of Obereider was lowered, so that the old town lost its original insular position. The city lake is the remainder of the on the former island situated Holstengrabens. By further construction measures the lake 1910 was cut off completely by the Obereider.
