This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association.
It "is located northwest of Hochspeyer on the old high road, the so-called Matzenberger Weg, on the northwest slope of the Harzkopf. [...]
The Ritterstein marks the location of a centuries-old oak tree that was knocked down by a storm in 1921. In 1925 a new commemorative oak tree was planted. There were many stories/sagas about the old fallen oak tree. For example, B. superstitious people have told scary ghost stories in which ghosts were up to mischief on the “Dicken Eich” at midnight. Others told of a white lady who was said to have guarded an iron treasure chest (Eitelmann 2005, p. 131). "

The newly planted oak tree (from 1925) could be the oak tree that stands diagonally opposite this Ritterstein - on the other side of the wide path.

Not far from the white lady is this knight's stone, which commemorates a 300-year-old oak tree, which unfortunately fell victim to a storm in 1921. But there is hope because a new oak tree was planted in 1925!
