At 493 m, the Hohe Hagen is the highest mountain in southern Lower Saxony. Like many mountains in the area, it is of volcanic origin and consists of basalt rock. The mountain became known through the land surveying by C. F. Gauß, which he began on the Hohe Hagen. The economic use of the basalt rock resulted in a conflict with the Gauss Tower, the Gauss Tower, which was erected at its highest point in 1911.

If you want to enjoy the Gausturm and the view, you should contact the campsite on the Hohe Hagen.

Today's Gauss tower is not the first of its kind. The stone predecessor collapsed because the quarry work was carried out too close to its location.
