The battle of Dettingen on June 27, 1743 was reflected in the regional legends with the story of the "red Englishman". In the Spessart saga (1885) Albert von Herrlein took possession of the well-known mythical motif of a buried treasure and linked it with the battle of Dettingen under the title "The Wandering Englishman".

In search of the buried war chest of the English army, an Englishman is said to wander around in Lindigswald and wave the key of the buried war chest. It is often visible, especially in Advent. They believe that if one takes the key, one can have the buried war chest. But nobody has had the courage to do so.
