The courtyard pond with the beautiful temple on the shore belongs to the former Freigut Niederschöna. The mansion (Wiesenweg 7) of the former Freigut Niederschöna was rebuilt in 1910 and in 1946 converted into a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. From around the late 1960s it was used as a nursing home for senior citizens. At present, only the extensions of the once stately manor house remain.

A historical outline of the Freigut Niederschöna is given by the following naming of the former owners of the property from 1600. The first visible traces of the property can be found in a map by Markscheider Oeder around 1580:

"Hans Heinrich von Schönbergks gutt" - in addition to a "court of justice" (the inheritance court), two mills and "Hans Heinrich v. Schönbergs holtz", a forest that was cleared more than 100 years later and forms the village floor of a large part of Hetzdorf. Based on the purchase books available in the Freiberg district archive and the baptismal, marriage and death registers of the Niederschöna church, many owners of the free property can still be specifically identified:

in the 18th century there was an outwork, which in 1875 was designated as Freigut. It probably developed from a country estate owned by Hans Heinrich von Schönberg. The estate came to Heinrich von Lindenau in 1609 and was repeatedly owned by the von Schönberg family from 1617 to 1619 and from 1622 to 1627. This was followed by other noble owners, of whom August Philipp von Mergenthal is named as the buyer in 1742. The manor house was probably built under Justus Israel Kretzschmar, who bought the Freigut in 1753. In the middle of the 19th century, the free estate was abolished by a change in the law. From then on, the Freigut was popularly referred to as a manor, although it was in fact not one.

From 1902 Franz Friedrich Schatz was the owner of the former Freigut Niederschöna. He had a new farm building built and later sold the farm to Karl Helmuth Kohlschmidt, who sold the Freigut to the Reichsbahn workers' pension fund in 1924. They set up a children's home in the manor house, and modifications had been made for this purpose. Another wing and an intermediate wing were built. A round tower was also built in the courtyard.

The use of the home changed several times. The municipality of Niederschöna took over the Freigut in 1934 and set up a labor service camp there. In 1938 the children's home was reactivated. A use as a military hospital was followed by a use as a teacher training center.
