It's unfortunate that the pug only has one shovel.

But what is it called so beautifully in Loriot's sketch? At the end of the 16th century, the mighty pug shovels were still a popular hunting trophy. In the course of the 17th century, however, they were ruthlessly bred back, as fourteen-pointers had proved to be a hindrance in the laps of older women.

Some things just never change. Even if an attempt was made to protect the forest pugs from raw material poachers with stainless steel and concrete foundations, one of them disappeared in front of the Paulikloster.
