The Middle Elbe between Mulde and Saale is a nature reserve in the urban district of Dessau-Roßlau, in the town of Aken in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district and in the town of Barby in the Salzland district.
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0394 is approximately 8,507 hectares in size.
It largely overlaps with the EU bird sanctuary "Middle Elbe including Steckby-Lödderitzer Forst" and the FFH areas "Kühnauer Heide and Elbaue between Aken and Dessau".
It also includes part of the FFH area "Saaleaue near Groß Rosenburg" and a small part of the FFH area "Elbaue between the mouth of the Saale and Magdeburg". The FFH area "Elbaue Steckby-Lödderitz" completely overlaps with the nature reserve.
The previous nature reserves "Steckby-Lödderitzer Forst" and "Saalberghau" as well as parts of the landscape protection area "Middle Elbe" have opened up in the area. The nature reserve is mostly surrounded by the “Middle Elbe” landscape protection area.
The area has been under nature protection since December 21, 2018.
The responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the city of Dessau-Roßlau and the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Salzlandkreis.
