From 2013 to 2016, the Hirschwald Nature Park set up an art walking station in each of its eight member communities. Each station has an artistic and a nature conservation theme.
Themes of the Rieden station:
ARTWORK: PAN
In local memory and in historical references, the goat or billy goat is a household name for Rieden. Numerous myths and legends revolve around the billy goat. The nature-loving creature Pan, the patron god of shepherds and hunters, is depicted as a billy goat. The goat's horn is said to have magical powers (cornucopia in Greek mythology). The goat's horn stands for defensiveness and dignity and is a symbol of strength and energy. Design: Cécile Wolfram

HISTORY OF THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE IN THE VILSTAL VALLEY
Once upon a time, shepherds from Rieden drove their goats along the Vils River and into the side valleys. This gave the people a close connection to nature and earned them the name "Goaslandler." In earlier times, the goat was referred to as "the poor man's cow." Today, it is regrettable that there are hardly any goats left to graze the lean and dry grassland slopes of the Schlossberg, which are worthy of landscape and nature conservation. Centuries of grazing have created a habitat on which a variety of rare and protected plants and animals depend.
