A whole range of leisure activities are offered to residents and visitors to the settlement
in Lohbrügge-Nord. The approximately 17 hectare recreation area was created in 1964 on the site of a former clay pit. A network of paths leads along three small ponds, streams, playgrounds and through the varied greenery.

Garden lovers can expect a formally designed area with curved paths, through perennial plantings and colorful beds with summer flowers. The center of the designed garden is the aviary at the gardener's base. Parakeets, finches, parrots and even chickens frolic in the large bird cage and delight visitors both big and small.

The Green Center was created in the mid-1960s as a central green area for the new Lohbrügge-Nord residential area.
Until 1963, the current area of the 14 hectare park was used agriculturally and commercially. In addition to the fields of four Lohbrügger farms, there were also two brickworks here.
The Stock brickworks, near today's Kurt-Adams-Platz, was put into operation around 1860 by Hans Hinrich Ohl and later continued by August Stock. Not far away was Johannes Siemers' brickworks on Beensroaredder, which was built around 1858. The clay pit of the Stock brickworks can still be clearly seen today - this is where the pond is located in the middle of the Green Center. The extensive green area stretches along the Bornmühlenbach and offers people from the district not only sunbathing lawns and landscaped flower beds but also a bird aviary. At the Binnenfeldredder there is the Wilhelm Lindemann sports facility, adjacent to the toboggan hill and a skate park. A mini golf course and the “Parktantenhaus” are located in the northern part. Other projects had to be canceled for cost reasons, such as the construction of a leisure facility with a heated outdoor pool, tennis hall and artificial ice rink. Nevertheless, the Green Center is still a facility that positively sets Lohbrügge-Nord apart from other comparable large settlements, such as Mümmelmannsberg or Steilshoop.

Green center Lohbrügge
In the 1960s and 70s, many German urban planners followed the then current model of the functional separation of living, working, recreation and exercise. The large housing estate Lohbrügge-Nord in Hamburg's Bergedorf district and the associated green area were also built according to this model.
