The lake of the former church quarry has the outline of a heart. And in the middle of the indentation stands the Kirchberg, which is about 80 meters high, 35 million years old and crowned by the mountain church. A stunning panorama!

But first things first: The mountain has been around for many millions of years. In the 13th century, a first church was built on its hump, which was worn down by the Ice Age, and was expanded over the following centuries. From the 15th to the 19th century, granite porphyry was quarried around the Kirchberg so excessively in places that a deep fracture was formed, which surrounded the church on three sides. Today the quarry is flooded and has been designated a "National Geotope".

Unfortunately I didn't have very nice weather but that didn't matter what a unique position for a place of worship, at the back of the church is as unique as Wandriljef a war memorial.
The path around the Seebruch repeatedly offers great views of the church.
