In Wels Castle you can visit the interesting city museum: Here you can experience an unbelievable 1,000 years of history of the city - from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and the Baroque to the present day. The castle was mentioned as early as 776, was owned by the Habsburgs for a time and under Emperor Maximilian I underwent a late Gothic conversion. You can also visit the Austrian Pastry Museum and the Museum of Expellees.

The castle Wels now houses one of the most exciting city museums in Upper Austria. Famous was the castle and not least the city of Wels by the last knight, the Habsburg Emperor Maximilian I, who did his last breath here on January 12, 1519. In the Burggarten you can admire a monument of the Emperor on a remnant of the Roman city wall.
