Well, the Gadenstedter Bolzberg stands out from the surrounding landscape. The elevation of shell limestone is a typical rise of a salt dome below in our area. Under pressure, these become plastic and break open at the weakest point of the cap rock.
Apparently in the Middle Ages the Bolzberg was used as a quarry. Stones can be found in Adenstedt and surrounding villages. This resulted in a deep basin with impressively upright shell limestone walls with just such cliff edges on which beech trees are struggling to survive. You can walk around the top and also go into the cauldron. You should also take a look at the ravine on the southern slope and the western trenches of the Landwehr!
