The adventure mine, the "Grube Silberhardt", in Windeck opens up historical mining tunnels from the 15th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Silberhardt pit is operated on a voluntary basis as a visitor mine. It is worth taking the approx. 1.5 hour tour of the mine (7€). It is instructive, entertaining and you can tell that the people are passionate about what they do. Children are also included in the tour in an exemplary manner. The pit workshop provides an insight into current and future projects. Exciting!

Since it is very humid and dripping in the mine, water-repellent clothing is recommended, which can also get dirty. Sturdy footwear is a must.

The Silberhardt Mine includes the approx. 2.4 km long mining trail (free), on which there is a lot to discover.

"The visitor mine "Grube Silberhardt" in Windeck-Ottershagen is a reminder of the long tradition of silver and ore mining. The tour through the tunnel system, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, shows the earlier mining methods and the harsh working conditions under which the miners work in silver and iron ore mining An approximately 1.7 km long mining hiking trail with a total of 14 stations runs parallel to the mine. Here, in addition to other former mines, smelting techniques are shown using reconstructed exhibits.
The entire program at the Silberhardt mine lasts approx. 1-3 hours, depending on the number of people.

The association for the preservation of the mining and smelting tradition e.V. operates
In cooperation with the municipality of Windeck, the “Grube Silberhardt” visitor mine in Windeck-Öttershagen not far from the Siegtal on the heights. The mine was reopened largely through voluntary work by a local citizens' association in 1999 and has been open to groups of visitors ever since. Expert guides explain to visitors the long tradition of ore mining in the Bergisches Land.

In the visitor and information center with a museum film screening room you can find out about the historic mining industry in the region. A guest room and a glass-covered terrace invite you to linger.

The Silberhardt mine is open every weekday for a public tour at 11:30 a.m. The visitor mine can only be visited with a guided tour. No registration is required to take part in a public tour.
There is a public tour at 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
