The Ruhr floodplains from the Raffelbergbrücke are worthwhile in every season. Let your mind wander, watch trains, cars and ships. In addition, a herd of cows can be spotted which, if you are lucky, sometimes wades through the Ruhr. Very very nice.

"The area is located north of Mülheim city center. It includes the lower section of the Ruhr and its floodplain areas up to just before the confluence with the Rhine. The area is largely occupied by extensively used grassland, with moderately intensively used pastureland in the north. In between are interspersed with some woody structures. The Ruhr is accompanied in places by willow bushes. It is narrowed by a weir shortly before the motorway bridge of the A40. In the southern area of the area there are several enrichment basins in the area of the floodplain. They are partly surrounded by willow bushes, a pond In the very south there is a dense belt of reeds. Two other ponds are designated as GB. The value of the entire biotope complex consisting of Ruhr floodplains, river courses and wetlands is decisive. They represent a valuable retreat for many animal and plant species in the river floodplains. Meadows, wetlands and bodies of water is highly representative and therefore worthy of protection in terms of the protection concept for the natural area. Impairments can be recognized, among other things, by strong neophyte spread and eutrophication.
