A chapel was erected on this private property to commemorate five families murdered towards the end of World War II. These had been hiding in a bunker inside the hill (Königskogel, then an anti-aircraft position) and had been discovered and killed by the Soviets.

Anyone who would like to read up on the history of the Königskogel and the anti-aircraft battery stationed there should look for the following document: Rauchenwarth Apr 1945.doc Written by Felix RAMEDER, born August 5th, 1932 as a 13-year-old eyewitness at the time. If you have seen this bizarre memorial and read the eyewitness report about the events, you can probably get a better picture. You can also learn how the Bründl Church and its cemetery relate to it.
