Chapel boat Spes Nostra (on the Sambre in Marchienne-au-Pont). A church ship or chapel boat is a ship that facilitates pastoral care for sea fishermen and shipping or in coastal areas.

Although the visit to the naves in Western Europe has fallen sharply in 2012, there are still church naves in use here and there in Europe, such as the Antwerp Church ship St Joseph, the Liège chapel boat Emmaüs and the 'skipper's church' Je Sers in Conflans-Sainte- Honorine. These are stationary ships, in contrast to the four hospital church ships De Hoop that sailed in the North Sea between 1898 and 1988. Church aldermen in Belgium fall under the Schippers Apostolate, which comes under the Archdiocese of Mechelen.

* Since August 15, 1953, the ship-chapel “Spes Nostra” (Our Hope) has been moored at the Quai du Sud and welcomes the faithful. It is the last of its kind in Wallonia.
* Its construction at the Michot shipyard in Thuin was entirely financed by an inheritance received by Abbé Ranchon, founder of the Amicale batelière canadienne in Marchienne-au-Pont.
* Intended for boatmen in the region, the boat has hosted hundreds of weddings, baptisms, Sunday masses and other ceremonies linked to boating festivals.
* Less frequented, the boat nevertheless remains a major part of the heritage and history of the community of boatmen. He is at the center of the Pardon organized annually.
* Faced with the aging of volunteers, it is threatened at the beginning of 2020 with closure and dismantling. A new association was recently created to save him.
