"After wet gravel paving, the Wiedesee was designed as a landscape lake in the 1970s.
The renaturation of the former gravel quarrying area was carried out exclusively in accordance with the aspects of nature conservation and landscape management. In fact, the newly created shallow water zones, bays, reed beds and a peninsula were soon populated by various animal and plant species. Due to its increasing importance for water birds and amphibians, the Wiedesee and its riparian zones were designated as a nature reserve in 1984. "(Source: mittelweser-tourismus.de/poi/wiedesee-1/)
Tip: Bird lovers should bring good binoculars. Ospreys are said to have been sighted there.

Here you can wonderfully look out over the Wiedesee, an otherwise not publicly accessible area that is probably used by the local fishing club. The lookout tower is well protected and offers beautiful views all around as well as seating with a good view inside. It is very easy to endure here for a while.
