Philipp Franz von Siebold was born on February 17, 1796 in Würzburg and died on October 18, 1866 in Munich.
In honor of this world-renowned member of a Würzburg family of scholars, more than 150 "his" plants are cultivated in various parts of the botanical garden of the University of Würzburg.

This garden shows plants that the doctor and natural scientist Philipp Franz von Siebold (1796 - 1866), who was born in Würzburg, was the first to describe and introduce to Europe on his travels - especially to Japan. This is why Japanese style elements were also used in the Sieboldgarten.
The implementation of the State Garden Show in Würzburg in 1990 was the reason to erect a monument to this important citizen of the city, which honors and reflects his efforts for botany and horticulture in Central Europe.
