Construction of the Bischofferode potash mine began in 1909. Despite all the political turmoil, potash salts were mined until December 31, 1993. Until 1971, in addition to above-ground storage on dumps, some of the ore was also returned underground. After that, only above-ground storage continued. After the mine's closure, work began on replanting the dump.
