The former, historically unique lime shaft kiln, built in 1893, had been left to decay for many years since it ceased operations. Thanks to the voluntary work of the numerous active members of the lime kiln BAXA association, the general renovation of the building could begin in autumn 1996. On June 28, 1998, under the long-time chairman Karl Tschank, the ceremonial opening took place, which should turn the industrial monument into a cultural meeting place for the region. The lime kiln and stone extraction museum on the upper floor attracts as many visitors as the diverse events that find an atmospheric setting in the hexagonal gallery. A temporary café, the creative summer courses and the extensive hiking trails in the Desert Nature Park make the lime kiln a diverse and interesting excursion destination.
