Piazza della Loggia, one of the three main squares of Brescia, is a magical and evocative place, which combines history and modernity. Built in the 15th century in the midst of the Renaissance, this square immediately became the beating heart of the city. It houses the Venetian-style palace of the Loggia, the clock tower with the "madmen of the hours" - Tone and Batista - the monument to Bella Italia and the old Monte di Pietà palace.

Piazza della Loggia, or more simply Piazza Loggia, also known as Piazza Vecchia (Piazza ècia in Brescian dialect), is one of the main squares of Brescia, a symbolic place of the Brescian Renaissance and of the Venetian domination of Brescia.
On 28 May 1974 the square, while an anti-fascist demonstration by unions and workers was underway, was the scene of a neo-fascist terrorist attack, which led to the death of eight people and several hundred injuries.

What is the significance of the Clock Tower's automatons, 'i macc de le ure'?

These figures, named Tone and Batista by locals, are a beloved and iconic part of the square, adding a unique historical charm to the hourly chimes.
