The castle ruins were left to their own devices for years until 2004 when Wilbert de Weichs de Wenne decided that the place where his parental home once stood should be preserved. The restoration of the castle was completed in 2012.
The castle is open to the public in high season.
A well-maintained path runs around the castle.

Personally I thought it was a bit disappointing, could have made more of it but still nice that it has been somewhat restored.

"... Kasteel Geijsteren is a 13th century castle ruin located in the North Limburg village of Geijsteren.
After a major fire in 1918, the castle was largely rebuilt. However, the castle was blown up by the British in 1944 to prevent the newly expelled Germans from using it as a lookout again. The castle was completely destroyed. Recently, the ruins have been restored to make the contours of the castle visible. When you enter the gatehouse, you can see what the castle used to look like thanks to the pictures hanging here from the time before the bombing. At the side of the ruins, you can walk through a small gate through the meadow to the Maas. This is the place where the Geijsterse beek flows into the Maas and here you have a beautiful view. ..."
