The Mühlbach was of central importance for Offenburg both economically and culturally. Its water power drove factories and at the same time provided a space for leisure and inspiration. To make this history come alive, the Mühlbach educational trail with 21 panels informs about the importance of the stream and reminds of the close connection to the people and events of the city's history. The project was financed by the Alt Offenburg Foundation, based on the city's extensive archives.

The Mühlbach has always kept the people of Offenburg busy in two ways: on the one hand, quite literally, it was a prerequisite for the existence of factories. It was only the use of its water power that enabled large parts of the population to be employed; on the other hand, it was the object of imagination, memories and conversations, the background and stage of Offenburg's leisure time. The Mühlbach had many faces and meanings for the people of the city. Its history is directly linked to their own. Writing down this history means not only recalling a chapter of Offenburg's past, but also remembering specific names and people, well-known and unknown women and men. Source: City of Offenburg
