The bust of Emperor Franz, also known as a "monument", was planned for the time of the Congress of Vienna on the "Hermitage Square", but was only realized after the death of the ruler. The city of Milan gave this marble bust on a granite base, created by the sculptor GB Comolli, to Empress Karoline Augusta during the Emperor's lifetime, but it was not erected in Laxenburg until 1836.

This monument is dedicated to Emperor Franz I, who gave the palace park its current appearance. The Carrara marble bust was a gift from the city of Milan to Empress Karoline Auguste, the emperor's fourth wife. After his death in 1836, she had the bust placed on a granite base in the form it has today. The bust forms the end of the avenue leading from the blue courtyard. This avenue was used by the imperial family as the park entrance and is the oldest preserved design element in the area of the main park entrance. (schloss-laxenburg.at)
